Taking a Team Approach to Optimizing Your Financial Future

We believe that a team approach adds a broader perspective to the work we do, maximizes our ability to exceed the expectations of our clients and ensures that every detail gets the attention you deserve.

We begin each morning with a review of the previous day and a detailed preview of the day ahead. During this time, we communicate ongoing projects and share success stories. We also evaluate whether we are meeting the high standards set forth in our Client Bill of Rights and discuss steps to remediate anything that doesn’t measure up.

Did You Know?

As of 2019, Callesen Wealth Management has been dedicated to serving others for 50 years. This milestone is a proud moment for our entire team, and something we're excited to share with our clients.

"The purpose of life is not to be happy.  It is to be useful, to be honorable, to be compassionate, to have it make some difference that you have lived and lived well."
- Ralph Waldo Emerson

Hello, I’m Nicholas and I am the Chief Executive Officer and a wealth advisor at Callesen Wealth Management. I began my career in the wealth management industry in 1992 after receiving my Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a major in Finance from Central Michigan University.

At my first job right out of college, I worked at a Fortune 500 financial services company that specialized in insurance and investments. After several years there and another year at a regional brokerage firm, I decided I wasn’t happy with the inherent conflicts of interest working for a large firm had. It felt like I was being forced to serve two masters: my clients and the company. And during the next several months of feeling like my loyalty had to be torn two ways, it became clear to me that things had to change. I needed to become an independent wealth advisor, making it possible to work for my clients, and only my clients, serving in their best interest.

So in 1996, I joined an independent broker-dealer.  My firm and I have been working for our clients ever since.

My vision is to build a firm that serves and blesses our clients. We strive to be a relationship-based company with a focus on planning, transparency, communication and education.

My fellow advisors and I help people pursue their life goals while bringing confidence to their financial lives. This allows them to spend more time focusing on their "True Wealth," the things in life that matter most to them.

My Registrations & Community Involvements

  • Series 7, Series 6, Series 63, Series 65 and Series 24 registrations held with IFP Securities, LLC.
  • IFP Securities, LLC. Registered Principal
  • Past Vice President and board member at Love INC of Manistee, MI
  • Past leadership team member and finance officer at Faith Covenant Church of Manistee
  • Co-Founder of "Twisted Blister Running Club" in Manistee

On a Personal Note

I am a big believer in working hard so that you can play hard. My wife and I enjoy traveling but also savor time at home with our two amazing children, Mason and Rachel. I strive to keep myself healthy and physically challenged by participating in endurance running. I have done dozens of marathons, half-marathons, 10k and 5k races. I have tackled the "Extreme Muck Ruck" (a 7-mile race through mud and swamp and obstacles) one time and plan to do several more. I also enjoy scuba diving, golf, hunting and fishing. My family and I are huge hockey fans and love the Detroit Red Wings!

Few people get excited to talk about financial planning and investments, yet today it is more important than ever. I've always had a passion for economics and how the economy affects the financial markets. However, it quickly became apparent that this interest was not shared by most people! The financial markets are bigger, more complicated and more global than ever before, and it is intimidating to try and make sense of it on your own.

It was because of this trend that I was drawn to a career with Callesen Wealth Management. Our staff comes in every day to build a plan that helps you pursue your financial goals. With this plan, we can put a portfolio together to grow your financial confidence. Doing so allows you to focus on your true wealth, all that money cannot buy and death cannot take away.

I received my Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a major in Finance, and a minor in Economics at the University of Wisconsin in Milwaukee. During my time there, I served as an analyst and portfolio manager for the Student Investment Club, where students managed real endowment money in a competition with other Universities. In 2016, I earned the Chartered Financial Analyst® (CFA) designation, a globally respected graduate-level investment credential. I have also passed the first of three tests required to earn the Chartered Market Technician (CMT) designation, the preeminent global designation for technical analysis. In addition, I also currently hold a Series 7 and Series 66 securities registrations with IFP Securities, LLC. as well as Michigan Accident, life and health licenses. Prior to joining Callesen Wealth Management, I gained 10 years of financial experience ranging from retail banking to performing accounting duties for a Major League Baseball team.

On a Personal Note

When not in the office, it is still normal to catch me following financial markets and the global economy. There are times though that I find distractions watching the Detroit Lions, Red Wings or Tigers. I also enjoy golfing, going to the beach, catching up with friends from all over the country. A native of Grand Rapids, I often try to make it downstate to visit family.

In the role of Client Relationship Manager, I work to strengthen our relationships with both our clients and other businesses by employing regular and informative communication. As a licensed Wealth Advisor, I strive to make sense of investments for people from all walks of life.

I host regular client meetings to provide account reviews, and I always enjoy walking people through their investment performance and related questions. One of the most impactful things I do is build personal wealth plans for clients. We aggregate all sorts of relevant financial and family data, input it to our software and produce an interactive report that projects retirement success while planning for any potential pitfalls along the way. Our wealth plans are a key piece that allows us to deliver client-centric and comprehensive services.

I attended Grand Valley State University and earned my Bachelors in History. I love creating educational resources for our firm and constructing clarity from complex issues. If you have questions about building a wealth plan, why your account is doing what it is doing, or are interested in learning more about what we have to offer please don't hesitate to reach out.

On a Personal Note

My wife, my son and I live in Manistee, and we love the lakeshore and all it has to offer. You'll find us hiking the trails, tasting the wine or sitting in our local church pew.

Being responsible for client first impressions may seem like a daunting task to some, but I view it as an adventure. Everyone has a story, a passion or a life lesson to tell, and I strive to uncover it. I will offer you a fresh-baked cookie with a cup of hot coffee, not as a customer service ploy, but instead to relax and chat with a new friend.

I am also the lead worker for our eMoney program. eMoney utilizes your current financial picture to run simulations for your retired future self. It is a great tool to help confirm whether you are on track to live confidently in your later years, invest differently, plan for college costs or to help decide on a retirement timeline.

I graduated from Grand Valley State University with a B.S. degree in Advertising and Public Relations. I played three years of softball for the Lakers and one year of intramural flag football where I received league MVP. Upon graduating, I followed my then-future husband as he moved up the ranks in his career with small reception jobs. Once we settled in his childhood hometown, I obtained a job with the Department of Human Services that for four years drained me mentally and emotionally. Now my family rejoices that I am able to come home with so much joy and enthusiasm, because of my employment with Callesen Wealth Management in the Spring of 2014.

On a Personal Note

I love spending time with my husband, Bryan, and our toddler daughter, Nora. We are avid outdoorsmen who love sports and competition. After a brief excursion to Huntington Beach, CA, I have been bitten by the surfing bug, and I would love to try it on the Great Lakes. In the fall/winter you can find me up 20' in a tree with my bow in hand. I have a passion for creating invention prototypes and hope to one day hold a patent.

I joined the Callesen Wealth Management team in January 2009. I really enjoy the people I work with and serving our clients. Every morning, I look forward to getting up and coming into work, usually early to get a jump on things. I believe the advantage goes to the prepared mind. As Executive Assistant and Office Manager, I take phone calls, schedule appointments, help advisors prepare client reviews and do whatever it takes to make our client experience exceptional.

With over 35 years of business and management experience working in the auto business, food industry, electrical sales, electrical contracting, collections, retail and the medical field, I believe these different positions have prepared me to handle all types of customers, situations and the challenges that come our way.

On a Personal Note

When I'm out of the office I enjoy mid-century modern antiquing, boating, the beach and spending time with my wife and family. I also serve at my church encouraging others in their faith.
